Urban Music Awards

Urban Music Awards

The world’s biggest music awards show — celebrating two decades of global music excellence and cultural impact.

About the Urban Music Awards

The Urban Music Awards (UMA) is the largest and most influential music awards show in the world. Established in the United Kingdom in 2003, UMA was created to celebrate the artists, producers, DJs, and innovators shaping the sound of modern music globally. Over the last 20 years, UMA has become a global movement that continues to empower the urban music scene and honour talent from every corner of the world.

The awards have since expanded into the USA, the Caribbean, Asia, and Africa — building a legacy that reflects the cultural and commercial power of urban music. The UMA South Africa edition launched in 2025, following the successful launch of UMA Mauritius in 2021. Plans are underway to expand into Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and other key markets across the continent.

Why UMA Matters

  • Recognises and celebrates artists across genres including hip-hop, R&B, dance, amapiano, afrobeats, soul, and more
  • Broadcast to millions globally through digital and broadcast partners
  • Features iconic performances, celebrity hosts, and unforgettable moments
  • Driven by fan voting, industry recognition, and global reach
  • Empowers new talent through UMA Next Superstar competitions and regional showcases

More than an awards ceremony, the Urban Music Awards is a cultural institution dedicated to amplifying voices, shaping music trends, and redefining global entertainment. Each edition is a celebration of sound, culture, and unity.
